Ulinzi Stars have confirmed the appointment of Bernard Mwalala as their new head coach and taking over from Benjamin Nyangweso.
Mwalala will be assisted by Vincent Otieno who has been serving as a stand-in coach since July after experienced coach Benjamin Nyangweso was relieved of his duties.
Former Wazito head coach Khamisi Abdallah Mohamed will also assist Mwalala as the second assistant coach.
“We are delighted to welcome Bernard Mwalala as our new head coach. He will be assisted by Vincent Otieno and Khamisi Abdalla Mohammed,” Ulinzi Stars said in a statement.
The new coach will be in charge of the soldiers in the remainder of the pre-season and ahead of the new FKF Premier League season that is due to start on the 24th of this month.
Ulinzi, who finished 13th last season, will open their campaign with a match against newly promoted side AP Bomet.
Mwalala was in charge of Homeboyz last season when he guided them to second place, missing out on the league title to Tusker FC by mere goal difference.
He was then shown the door in a shock decision from the Homeboyz hierarchy.
Before joining Homeboyz, Mwalala held the reins at Bandari between 2018 and 2019 where they finished second behind Gor Mahia FC. He also won the FKF Shield cup where they represented Kenya in the CAF Confederations Cup in 2019 and were eliminated by Guineas Horoya AC.
The former Kenyan international also guided Nzoia Sugar to earn promotion to the Kenya Premier League in 2016
