Ferdinand Omanyala, the 100-meter champion from the Commonwealth Games, has once again made Kenyan history by defeating Marcell Lamont Jacobs, the indoor world 60-meter champion, to win the 60-meter final at the Meeting Lievin Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais on Wednesday.

Omanyala, who is also the African 100-meter champion, pushed hard to take the lead halfway through the race and finished in 6.54 seconds, breaking his previous personal best by 0.1 seconds. Omanyala defeated Olympic gold medalist in the 100-meter race Jacobs for the first time in this contest. With a season-best run of 6.57 seconds, the Italian came in second, and Arthur Cisse of Côte d'Ivoire took third place with a record of 6.59 seconds.

Omanyala was fourth in the same competition last year, trailing eventual winner Jacobs, who won in a time that was a personal best, 6.50 seconds. The triumph was swift and sweet retaliation for Omanyala. Omanyala finished that race in 6.57 seconds, which is a new national record.

Having won three events, broken his own national record twice, and placed second in another, Omanyala's World Athletics Indoor Tour came to a magnificent conclusion with this most recent victory. Prior to winning the Mandeville Competition on February 8 in a time that set a new record, he placed second at the Elite Indoor Track Miramas meeting on February 3 in 6.60 seconds. Then, on February 11, he won the Meeting de Paris by clocking 6.56 seconds, barely 0.1 seconds off his own record.

At the same competition, Commonwealth 800m champion Mary Moraa recorded a lifetime best to place second in the women's 800m behind British athlete Keely Hodgkinson, who ran a world-leading time of 1:57.71. With a time of 2:00.61, Moraa finished in second position.
