In Kenya, the school year usually begins in January and ends in October or at the beginning of November, just before the national examinations start. Also, the school year is divided into three terms; 1st term, 2nd term, and the 3rd term.
However, when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, the
school calendar changed as schools were closed for a year to curb the spread of
the virus.
Fortunately, the government developed a
return-to-school plan that saw children studying again.
Children have to compensate for the lost time, and
the Ministry of Education has developed an effective education calendar for
2022 to actualize this initiative.
The first time is over, and the students are ready
for the second term.
Term Two of 2022.
It starts from July 11 to September 16, 2022, and runs for ten weeks.
During the second term, there will be a midterm
one week from August 6 to 15 to enable General elections to be conducted on
August 9, 2022
Term Three of 2022.
It starts on September 26 to November 25, 2022,
and has nine weeks.
With nine weeks, the term won't have a midterm.
Current class eight will sit for the Kenya
Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination from November 28
to December 1, 2022.
The current form four will sit for the Kenya
Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination from December 1
to December 23, 2022.
Further, current Grade six will sit for the CBC National Assessment, the Kenya Certificate of Basic Education (KCBE), between November 28 and December 1.
Parents with children in class eight should be aware that by January 2023, their children will be joining form one.
Parents in Grade six should be aware that by Jan 2023, their children will be joining Junior Secondary School. The academic calendar will normalize from January 2023.
